Is Stratford Hall available for wedding receptions??
Loved visiting this place, everyone from the gift shop, vistor center and Kelly the tour guide were absolutely fantastic. Will be back to visit again. This walk back in history is well worth the trip.
MoreGreat history and hiking. Just down the road from Geo Washington's birthplace too. Definitely worth a visit.
MoreAll decked out in historically accurate splendor for the Christmas holidays, going at night was especially beautiful.
MoreFun place to go. The staff was very knowledgable, friendly and professional. There are hiking trails that lead down to the Potomac river. Nice day trip.
MoreThe ancestral home of the Lees dating back to circa 1738. Excellent interpretation, helpful staff, and magnificent grounds. Be sure to check out the Clifts and the beach. Bluebirds, deer, groundhogs, and bald eagles can all be spotted here, and the mill pond is teeming with fish. A true gem easy distance from DC. They also provide overnight lodging at the Inn for those who want to spend the weekend.
MoreThey let you see a lot of stuff!
Historic house and extensive grounds of the Lee family. There were at least 4 generations who lived here and made a variety of contributions to the early history of the US. It was also the birthplace of Robert E. Lee. The tour of the house is fascinating and there are a lot of out buildings you can explore as well. Beautiful place.
MoreStratford hall is a family favorite ! We get a year pass every year which saves a lot if you plan to go more than once. The grounds are nice to roam around and the beach and mill are really cool to see. We always find at least 1 shark tooth which is a bonus.
MoreVery knowledgeable and fun staff. The tour is worth every penny and more. The gardens are beautiful and the rest of the grounds really helps you understand plantation life.
MoreA bit out of the more traveled routes but true gem worthy of a day long visit. A great staff and a beautiful home only out done by the natural settings that sound it.
MoreI took the guided tour, very informative, beautiful house and grounds.
Lovely place with some surprises mixed in
Wonderful tour of the Lee family home. Staff was helpful, technology was efficient and thorough, gave many details of life at Stratford Hall. Three different types of tours were available, excited to return for another, or possibly one of their special events.
MoreEnjoyed the tour...very informative
This place is very well run.
Great place for a Fall walk
An interesting facility rich in history. My husband and I chose the self-guided tour with the audio recording machines. The house was beautiful and the displays were intriguing. The gift shop has lots of interesting and unique gifts as well as corn meal that is made at the working Mill on site. The beach is a nice area and we managed to find a few sharks teeth.
MoreGreat tour. Incredible history.
Beautiful. Beautiful grounds. Knowledgeable staff! Well worth spending the afternoon to revisit history.
MoreThere are a lot of educational things to see.I recommend visiting during one of the many special events that are scheduled. The wine and oyster festival was wonderful.
MoreThis beautiful historic property is superbly maintained and a joy to visit. Accommodations at the lodge are amazing--private, very clean, spacious. Staff is very helpful. Will definitely stay here again.
MoreLocation is beautiful and massive. I chose to do my own tour using a headset. The bad part is that the house and grounds are far away from the entrance building. I'm disabled and there was no handicapped accessible options (such as someone taking you to the house and grounds in a golf cart or letting you drive to the house). Then when I finally got to the house, my headset would only work with about 1/3 of the positions. There was no staff there for me to switch out a headset. Someone needs to be at the house with replacement headsets. When I returned to the entrance building, I informed them of the defective headset. She just said, "Ok," and tossed it to the side. I believe an apology and maybe a partial refund or at least a coupon for a percentage off at the gift shop would have been appropriate.
MoreFascinating place. Home of the Lee's in the 1700s. The family had many members who were important in the American Revolution and early history of the country. Also Robert E. Lee was born and lived there till he was 4. Well preserved and beautiful grounds.
MoreWonderful Valentine's Dinner and overnight accommodations! Loved touring the plantation and Great House.
MoreThe wine was delicious lunch was delicious and Stratford Hall was.
Always a nice place to visit! Robert E. Lee's birthplace with a great mansion to view as well as outer buildings (kitchen, stables, slave quarters, spring house), however could be kept in better shape and admission and tour prices are rather high.
MoreVery well maintained - great audio self guided tour. Beautiful grounds. Straight up telling of the slavery story.
MoreOur Great House tour guide Erica was wonderful. She is so knowledgeable, smart, funny. Definitely take the tour!!
MoreBeautiful place to bring the family! We love fossil hunting here in the warmer months!
MoreThis outstanding 1700's era plantation house with outbuildings was the birth place of Robert E. Lee. Wonderfully restored, we visited just as they were opening back up after the Covid-19 lockdown, but the staff was great. With no in person tours allowed, we found the self guided audio tour to be a great substitute, and in some ways better than a guided tour. Highly recommended for anyone interested in this time period or history in general. Also, take the time to visit the cliffs (photo below). A great view and easy to reach.
MoreOutstanding tour guide for main house. More like an English Manor house than a plantation house. Excellent work on preservation. Lots of walking. Excellent dining room for lunch. Good service. Have cabins for overnight. Excellent view of the river?
MoreHad the best time at the wine festival today. A lot of real good wine from across Virginia. Mr favorite was the Generals Ridge wines from Hauge.
MoreGreat property for a family excursion. Even has a working Mill with a demonstration. All staff were extremely friendly and ready with knowledge about the Lee to answer questions. Lots of walking so wear comfortable shoes.
MoreAmazing and lovely. Rich history. The grounds were immaculate and the house was accesible on the guided tour. I wish they made it a little more kid friendly as the history portions and family information did drag a bit. I would like to try the self tour wands next time, and can't wait to go back in the Spring for the gardens blooming. Great day!!
MoreGreat stop to walk the coast line and see some history
Beautifully kept gardens and house. It is worth the time to make the visit and wander the grounds. The trails go on for miles and the photography opportunities are enumerable. Another Virginia Historic Landmark. Become a Friend of Stratford.
MoreUnfortunately, they called the police on me and I was escorted off the property due to a misunderstanding. I had no idea this was Robert E. Lee's birthplace
MoreThe Wine & Oyster Festival was one of a kind!! The grounds were beautiful and the weather was gorgeous. I'll be back next year, believe that!!
MoreA great history lesson and a fun day
Very informative...a flashback to an earlier time
